ABSTRACT

Lagrangian coherent structures (LCS) separate dynamically distinct regions in time-dependent systems. These structures are a good tool for transport analysis and can be identified in terms of finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE) and finite-size Lyapunov exponent (FSLE). Based on high-frequency coastal radar data of velocity field near Napoli, LCS are captured and compared in FTLE and FSLE fields, respectively. These features will form the basis for targeted release of drifters in an upcoming coastal experiment.
